A closer look at Cerata Groundstreak (Calycopis cerata)

This small butterfly is a denizen of the forest understory. At Las Brisas Nature Reserve it is generally found near gaps created by fallen trees. Although it is widespread throughout tropical America, it is very often overlooked, but once you pay close attention to its detail, the pattern on the hindwing is striking! The other feature this species presents (not visible in the photo) is a completely powdery-blue upperside, which creates flashes of pale blue as it dashes here and there in front of you on the trails!
