V Cerulean Warbler Count at Las Brisas

On Sunday September 08, 2013, the annual Cerulean Warbler Count was held for fifth year in a row. This event is organized by Cerulean Warbler Conservation - Costa Rica (www.cerulea.org) and Las Brisas Nature Reserve in a joint effort to create awareness in of protecting this threatened species, as well as hundreds of other species that share the same habitat.

On this occasion, the event took place a week later than other years, and this might have been a reason lower numbers of Cerulean Warblers were found. There were fewer observers this year, also. Although we only had four groups out in the field (avg. = 6), 10 Cerulean Warblers were observed (avg. = 20). The total number of bird species observed was 216 during the six hours of survey. Find here the full list of bird species.

Incredible weather, plenty Ceruleans and hundreds of other spectacular bird species made this another enjoyable and productive event.
